If someone came up to you and offered you $10,000 to daily drive a mini van for 10 years, would you do it? If so what would you pick?

*Note: keep in mind that you can have a side car, but it's only available for you to drive on weekends.

For 10 years? Fuck that. The higher cost of maintenance and gas wouldn't be worth it compared to what I drive now.

That's less than 3 bucks a day. I'll pass.

Depends on the minivan.

Ten grand? Ten years?

No. Not even if it was a Previa.

Do you have to also purchase the mini-van, or is it provided to you?

If the van is provided to you, I'd certainly do it for 10,000 over 10 years. I would probably go with a Honda Odyssey.

I'd need more money for ten years, but I'd pick a Hi-ace

Minivans are fine daily drivers. I get them all the time as rentals and would be totally fine DDing them if that was my only option or I had a large passenger load requirement. 10k isn't enough for me to give up sporty hatches which I prefer though.

If I had to buy one I'd either get a top trim town and country or a very bottom of the line caravan.

Yes! I'd take a first-gen Odyssey with a sunroof

LULZ @ the minivan hate. It is really not all that bad, if you have a good minivan. I'd gladly drive one daily, especially if someone is giving me $10k.

Not hating on the minivan at all, it's just not the most interesting/fun thing to drive, which is something I think all of us enjoy.

$10K for a year I'd do. $10K stretched over 10 years however is:

I would not. Money is money.

for 10k no. besides, who is going to buy the van?

To drive a mini-van with higher cost of ownership than my current car? No, no I wouldn't take it.

It's provided to you, 10K wouldn't be enough to buy a decent one I don't think.

But it can be interesting. I like it when I take off like a bat out of hell from the stop lights in our minivan. That engine kicks in, and off I go. Sure, not as nimble as other cars I have driven, but still could be enjoyable.

Find enjoyment in all things in life, and life will be much more enjoyable.

I took the question as if the minivan is free and clear. No purchase, no maintenance costs...free and clear. But yeah, if I had to buy the oil/filter, gas, and any other maintenance, no thanks. A grand a year will not cover that.

Well, I guess a CPO 2012 Mercedes R350 would probably be pretty nice, but dollar for dollar, including repair costs for the 10 years, I'd probably go with a 2014 Toyota Sienna Limited and put the $10k aside for gas and repairs.

Also, if anyone wants to buy me a Sienna. I'll sign a waver stating that this is going to be my DD for the next decade.

In a heartbeat. I had a Sienna LE with AWD for work and it was a lot of fun to drive (plus it had so much room!). 0-60 was 7.1 seconds, which is great for something of that size. Of course, in this hypothetical I would take an AWD Sienna, preferably top-of-the-line with the leather and sunroof (and the awesome sound system) and I would get twin-turbos (of course, upgraded intercooler and engine internals, as well), coilovers, grippier rubber, and underbody protection (gotta have protection).

Of course, this is thinking that everything would be paid for, including the vehicle, mods, gas and repairs.

Come on Gamecat, if this is a hypothetical vehicle and you are going to pull out the minivan-esque R-Class, at least go for the 503-hp R63 AMG.

For the record, I saw one in Orange County, once. It was terrible (I still have nightmares).

The R63 stopped production in 2007. I'd rather not have something that old as my minivan DD. Minivans are all about features anyway. And I actually like the Sienna (drove a rental to NorCal and back over Thanksgiving).

If I can pick which van I get, and it's free to me then yes, I'd easily DD a van for 10 years (even for 1k a year.) It's a daily driver, a commuter, comfortable and versatile. Shut up, not the end of the world. Besides, that's what the fun side car is for.

btw, I also own a couple classics, a couple turbo'ed cars, and a sweet conversion van. But these are quiet, comfortable, have killer factory sound systems, and tons of room. Completely under the radar . And everyone wants me to drive on roadtrips. Wait, that kind of sucks.....

I don't car if people think I'm a soccer dad, but I'd definitely DD a new Odyssey for 10 years! It's such a comfortable vehicle. plus, it's a Honda, so finding an S/C kit for that V6 shouldn't be too hard...
